Pool Era field notes

How we research and fact-check our field notes

Wondering whether you can trust what you read here? This page explains how our field notes are researched, checked and kept up to date, and what they are not.

Who writes

Who writes our field notes

Field notes are written by the Pool Era team. Pool Era builds, refinishes and cares for pools in the Texas Hill Country, and the founder supervises the work on site. Where a post shares something we see on local jobs, it is labeled as a field note and written as general practice, not a promise about your project.

We do not list credentials, licences, awards or reviews on these pages unless they are real and documented. When a post has been reviewed by a named person, the byline says so.

Sources

Where our facts come from

Every number and every rule in a field note links to its source, shown as a small number in brackets with a list at the end of the post. We use primary sources first:

  • Government agencies: city permit offices, county and state rules (such as the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality), water providers like the San Antonio Water System, the National Weather Service, the CDC, the CPSC, the EPA and the Department of Energy.
  • Universities and extension services, such as Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Texas A&M Forest Service.
  • Trade and standards groups, such as the National Plasterers Council, the Natural Stone Institute and ANSI tile standards.
  • Makers' own guides for their products. We name the maker in the sentence, so you know whose claim it is.

When two sources disagree, we show both. We do not cite another pool company's blog as proof of a fact.

Checks

How a post is checked before it goes up

  • Read the source. We open each cited page and confirm it says what our sentence says: same numbers, same units, same conditions.
  • Plain words. We aim for an eighth-grade reading level, short sentences and a direct answer near the top.
  • Our own words. We read what already ranks for a topic so we cover the questions people ask. We write in our own words and check every post against those pages for copied wording.
  • No promises. We describe what is typical and say plainly what varies. Your project's scope, price and timing are only what your written agreement says.
  • Photos. We show finished pools and describe each photo in its alt text for screen readers.

Dates

Updated dates and re-checks

Each post shows the date its sources were last checked and when they are due for another check. Fast-changing facts get short re-check windows: drought stages about monthly, fees and permit forms about every three months, and codes and maker guidance about every six months. A post whose re-check date has passed fails our publishing check until its sources are checked again.
