Local conditions
What Missouri pools have to handle
Cold winters do most of the damage. Each fact comes with a source you can check.
Freezing water expands
Water takes up about 9% more space as ice. Water trapped in cracks freezes, thaws and freezes again, and over many cycles that breaks down concrete and brick.[1] Decks, coping and any water left in pipes face this each winter.
A shorter swim season
Central Missouri usually sees its first fall freeze around October 20, and southern Missouri around November 1. The Ozarks often freeze earlier.[2] Plan pool closing and equipment care before the first freeze.
Fence rules are set close to home
Check your city or county for pool fence rules before you build. The CPSC suggests a fence on all sides with self-closing, self-latching gates.[3]
